چکیده

We describe an assembled marine bacterial consortium designed for bioremediation of oil-contaminated seawater, based on a statistical method using Plackett-Burman (PB) experimental approach. The final consists four bacteria isolated from the Gulf Mexico, genera: Pseudomonas, Halopseudomonas, Paenarthrobacter , and Alcanivorax . Individually, oil removal by these microorganisms was evaluated gravimetry, reaching 39% at maximum after 75 days, whereas in it ~62%. also measured biodegradation levels Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) observing 12 polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation analyzed n -alkanes with preference specific chain length. Consortium population analysis V3-V4 region 16S rRNA showed stable community, suggesting that metabolic load distributed among dynamic interactions were achieved. In this work, we show use factorial synthetic design offers possibility improving efficiency populations.

Natural Sunlight Shapes Crude Oil-Degrading Bacterial Communities in Northern Gulf of Mexico Surface Waters

Following the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) spill in 2010, an enormous amount of oil was observed in the deep and surface waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico. Surface waters are characterized by intense sunlight and high temperature during summer. While the oil-degrading bacterial communities in the deep-sea plume have been widely investigated, the effect of natural sunlight on those in oil pollute...

Bacterial hydrocarbon-degrading consortium from Antarctic soils.

Removal of contaminants from polluted environments could be improved by taking advantage of the catabolic capacity of some microorganisms in a process called bioremediation. Nowadays, the use of microbial associations (also called microbial consortia) is gaining attention, because they seem to have a wider degradation spectrum than that exhibited by isolated strains. M10 is a bacterial consorti...

Potential Environmental Factors Affecting Oil-Degrading Bacterial Populations in Deep and Surface Waters of the Northern Gulf of Mexico

Understanding bacterial community dynamics as a result of an oil spill is important for predicting the fate of oil released to the environment and developing bioremediation strategies in the Gulf of Mexico. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the roles of temperature, water chemistry (nutrients), and initial bacterial community in selecting oil degraders through a series of incubation experime...

Metagenomic Analysis of a Biphenyl-Degrading Soil Bacterial Consortium Reveals the Metabolic Roles of Specific Populations

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are widespread persistent pollutants that cause several adverse health effects. Aerobic bioremediation of PCBs involves the activity of either one bacterial species or a microbial consortium. Using multiple species will enhance the range of PCB congeners co-metabolized since different PCB-degrading microorganisms exhibit different substrate specificity. We have ...

Mining of Novel Thermo-Stable Cellulolytic Genes from a Thermophilic Cellulose-Degrading Consortium by Metagenomics

In this study, metagenomics was applied to characterize the microbial community and to discover carbohydrate-active genes of an enriched thermophilic cellulose-degrading sludge. The 16S analysis showed that the sludge microbiome was dominated by genus of cellulolytic Clostridium and methanogenesis Methanothermobacter. In order to retrieve genes from the metagenome, de novo assembly of the 11,93...
